Heritage Foundation:
Supporting Senior Welfare

Empowering Elders, Honouring Lives, Inspiring Generations
Growing old is a natural part of life, but the way we choose to experience and embrace this stage is what truly counts.
At the Heritage Foundation, we believe in celebrating ageing with dignity and respect. Since our establishment on September 6, 1994, we have been steadfast advocates for the well-being of senior citizens, committed to fostering intergenerational solidarity. We are devoted to supporting geriatric caregivers, influencing senior citizen-related policies, and building a senior-citizen-friendly society.
The Heritage Foundation serves as a Regional Resource and Training Centre (RRTC) designated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
This acknowledgement has helped us train and monitor old age homes across Telangana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Tamil Nadu. By acting as key nodal agencies under the Ministry, RRTCs render technical support, training, and capacity building for the effective delivery of elderly care services. They also include implementing awareness programmes, advocacy, and sensitisation, helping build a more inclusive and informed society for the elderly.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, has released the Minimum Standards for Senior Citizen Homes (2024) — a comprehensive framework addressing the physical, emotional, and medical well-being of elderly residents in institutional care.

Our efforts extend beyond policy advocacy to community outreach and specialised training programmes. We have organised workshops in major Indian cities to shed light on geriatric topics such as dementia care and institutional elder care standards. Collaborating with esteemed institutions like Madras School of Social Work, Bharathidasan University, and Bharathiar University, we drive forward the exploration of geriatric education and research. Our initiatives are designed not just to inform but also to engage and empower communities, creating a more compassionate society for elders.
Our significant presence on international platforms has enabled us to contribute to vital discussions at the United Nations, the International Federation on Ageing (IFA), and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Furthermore, we have proudly played a pivotal role in drafting key initiatives such as the Declaration of the Rights and Responsibilities of Older Persons and global conferences on ageing policies.
At the core, we are dedicated to empowering the elderly, educating society, and strengthening caregiver networks in a country where projections estimate that by 2050, the 60+ population in India will reach 300 million, which is 20% of our total population. The Heritage Foundation stands stronger than ever, with an unwavering dedication to celebrating, cherishing, and respecting every senior citizen.
